For the last several years, we have been privileged to work with an extraordinary team of cardiac and vascular specialists on a most exciting project: the creation of a new Heart & Vascular Hospital within Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC). Given the medical center’s strong reputation in cardiac care, it is fair to ask, “Why a heart and vascular hospital?” and “Why now?”

The practice of cardiac care is vastly different than it was ten or even five years ago, and it continues to evolve. Surviving cardiac events that were once invariably fatal has left more of us with compromised cardiovascular systems. The once distinct lines between medical and surgical approaches to cardiac care have blurred, and new devices are playing a more important role than ever. Collaboration is key…not only to the health of the individual patient, but also to the discovery of new ways to prevent and treat heart disease.

We are gathering some of the most experienced practitioners in the New York-New Jersey Metropolitan area together in one place to provide seamless service, and we need to give them the most advanced technology available to diagnose and treat cardiac and vascular disease. And that is exactly what our Heart & Vascular Hospital (HVH) is designed to do: help promote the kind of collaborative care and integrated research that leads to new advances in medicine and provides the best patient experience for our community.

Cardiovascular disease is still America’s number one killer, and even those it spares often need the kind of ongoing, technologically sophisticated, patient-centered care that is HUMC’s hallmark.
